The Business Case Competition is a challenge that takes place at an advanced phase of both the International Full Time and the Executive programs and it was created to give companies the opportunity to receive different perspectives on the same problem. Students are divided into groups and work separately to solve a real-life situation in a competitive environment, applying all the concepts already learnt during the MBA and delivering value added answers to the sponsor company’s questions.

Business Case Competition Spirit

The company applying for sponsoring the Business Case Competition chooses a business topic that will be the object of the competition. The topic needs to be a real-life situation that the company is facing and for which it needs to get answers and solutions. The topic can be related with strategy, marketing, internationalization, human resources or any other integrated topic.

In previous years we had companies presenting challenges like:

- Internationalization strategy: to what countries and with what products should we expand our business?

- Sales: how to increase sales of a product in several specific customers’ segments?

- Loyalty: how to use loyalty cards to increase sales and customer satisfaction?

Case competition teams of students are formed by The Lisbon MBA management team in order to assure the best diversity, in terms of academic background, professional experience and gender.

What previous participants say about the Business Case Competition

“The work developed by the 5 teams of The Lisbon MBA astonished us by its quality, motivation and ability to find innovative solutions in unknown territories. Many of the proposals that were presented to us will definitely be applied, but, regardless these 2 days were really worthwhile for the opportunity to critically observe our intervention, find new approaches and gather feedback. It was an exercise of humility and development from our part and it was an exercise of creativity for The Lisbon MBA students. These experiences are crucial to any organization to test its ability to act and cope with change”
